Epigenetics is a field of medicine that is intensively developing and knowledge in this field are implemented in preventative pediatrics and all areas of medicine. The application of epigenetic information in preventive pediatrics is growing and interesting from several aspects. In certain circumstances, the influence of epigenetic factors can alter gene expression and lead to the development of disease, and its influence can act preventively, and to delay the manifestation of the disease, improve quality of life, and contributes to extension of life. Changing epigenetic factors can influence occurrence of these diseases postpone or do not develop. As epigenetic changes are reversible, and there is no primary damage of DNA sequences nor changes in chromosomes, there are great possibilities for the design of intervention strategies with lifestyle changes and epigenetic preventive therapy.
