EPILEPTIC SEIZURES IN SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN WITH PSYCHOPATHOLOGY DISORDERS – CASE REPORTS

Due to frequent somatization, school-age children with diagnosed disorders from the domain of psychopathology are demanding patients in everyday pediatric practice. Also, symptoms of behavioral and attention disorders, anxiety, and depression can often mask the clinical picture of epileptic seizures. School age is also characterized by the appearance of epileptic syndromes, which have an excellent prognosis and response to antiepileptic therapy if recognized on time. Otherwise, epileptic attacks may contribute to the worsening of the symptoms of psychopathology. Therefore, two case reports are presented, patient with newly diagnosed childhood absence epilepsy with previously diagnosed hyperactivity disorder and female patient with newly diagnosed juvenile myoclonic epilepsy with previously diagnosed generalized anxiety syndrome. A patient who exhibits symptoms that may support epileptic seizures and at the same time has a diagnosed disorder in the domain of psychopathology should be referred to a neuro-pediatrician - epileptologist in order to consider pilepsy as a frequent comorbidity of the disorders above.
