Abstract

Allergic rhinitis affects more than 500 million people worldwide and can be considered the leading chronic respiratory disorder because of its prevalence, impact on quality of life, economic importance, effects on work and school performance, as well as the association with asthma. The prevalence of allergic rhinitis is still increasing.Treatment options for AR (ARIA) are numerous and include: 1) patient education; 2) prevention of exposure to allergens and irritans from the environment; 3) pharmacological therapy; 4) immunotherapy. However, about 20% of patients treated under the proprositions clinical guide for AR haven̕t adequate control of symptoms and the therapy of AR remains a challenge for clinicians. Therefore, we should bear in mind the other therapeutic options, and improve the availability of immunotherapy and new modalities in the treatment of AR.
