Abstract

In the last three decades the prevalence of overweight and obesity has increased markedly in children worldwide, with a number of health consequences. Obesity is recognized as one of the most important problems and challenges of public health in the 21st century. With control of risk factors, which include obesity, would be possible to achieve prevention of many chronic diseases. Risk factors for childhood obesity identified by epidemiological research are divided into three large groups: demographics, physical activity behaviors, eating behaviors. It is very important to stress, that these risk factors are potentially modifiable. Accordingly, it is necessary to intervene at the level of the entire community associations in order to facilitate the education of parents and children about healthy habits with the availability of facilities for physical activity and regular contact with medical professionals.
